Sewaktu KKN, kebutuhan akan cetak mencetak pada media kertas sangat tinggi. Pada waktu itu printer saya dirumah sedang rusak dan sama sekali tidak bisa dipakai, entah kenapa dan saya sedikit malas untuk mengurusinya karena sepertinya sangat parah rusaknya, dan sangat diluar kemampuan saya. Hingga pada akhirnya untuk memenuhi kebutuhan cetak mencetak sewaktu kkn, teman kami sekelompok yang bernama Nursyahwan Ridwan bersedia untuk meminjamkan printer barunya bermerk Canon PIXMA IP 1600 yang baru saja dibeli kurang dari sebulan sebelum KKN dimulai.Printer tersebut lancar ketika dipakai dan hasilnya lumayan bagus. Hingga kami pulang dari lokasi, kami masih meneruskan pekerjaan kami untuk menyelesaikan laporan kegiatan akhir. Sekali lagi, ini adalah pekerjaan cetak mencetak yang harus didukung printer, dan sekali lagi printer Canon Pixma yang kemaren kami pakai kembali.
Pada tengah-tengah proses pencetakan laporan, kami mengalami masalah. Pada komputer terdapat peringatan kalau tinta warna harus diisi ulang untuk bisa melanjutkan proses pencetakan. Peringatan tersebut tidak membuat kami bingung, karena sebelumnya kami telah telah memberi tinta sebelumnya, maksudnya untuk berjaga-jaga bila tinta habis. Dan ternyata benar. Kamipun mengisi dengan tinta baru. Baik yang warna dan yang hitam kami isi keduanya sesuai dengan petunjuk yang ada pada panduan. Setelah pengisian kami lakukan, kami memasang kembali catridge Canon tersebut. Dan kamipun meneruskan perintah untuk meneruskan pencetakan. Dan apa yang terjadi? ternyata printer tetap mengeluarkan peringatan yang sama. Kamipun bingung dan mencoba bertanya kepada teman. Ternyata, printer Canon IP 1600 harus dilakukan reseting jika pengisian dilakukan. Hal tersebut dimaksudkan untuk mengembalikan posisi indicator tinta pada kondisi normal sesuai pengisian.Hampir saja kami putus asa waktu itu, karena 2 jam lagi laporan kami kumpulkan.Spontan, sayapun mencari diinternet. Saya mencoba googling dan kami mendapatkan sedikit pencerahan setelah menemukan web page berbahasa rusia yang memuat kata kata "DOWNLOAD Service Tool for Canon iP1200, 1600, 2200".Langsung saja saya ke situs tersebut dan memang benar, mereka membahas dan menyediakan software reseter Canon secara gratis...Sekarang.. Printer sudah bisa dipakai.. dan, Txs google..

The pins for the Black cartridge will work on the following cartridges: C6656A (#56) or C8727A (#27)The pins for the Color cartridge will work on the following cartridges: C6657A (#57), C6658A (#58 Photo), or C8728A (#28)

Resetting the cartridges wasn’t hard, just annoying. It requires taping off some contact points on the cartridge and reinserting the thing 3 times. Below are the instructions I used in order to make my printer think it is a new cartridge. You will have to use the image below the instructions to know exactly which pin I am talking about on the different cartridges. They are not actually colored in real life, but you should have known that.
Turn printer on and take the cartridge out of the printer. I took the paper out also, otherwise it will print an alignment sheet every time you put the cartridges back in. Letting it not print one did not seem to bother the printer or cause the instructions to not work.
Cover the pin marked in Red (see below) with tape on the cartridge you refilled. You can do both the Color and Black cartridges at the same time if you like.
Put cartridge back in printer and shut access door and let the printer do its thing. Eventually it will stop making noises and indicate an error. Ignore it.
Open cartridge access door and remove cartridge again. Add another piece of tape covering the pin marked Blue (see below). Both the Red and Blue marked pins need to be covered with tape. Be careful to not cover any other pins. Also, please note that the pin marked Blue is different for the Black and Color cartridges (I screwed this up the first time).
Put cartridge back in and shut access door. Let printer do its thing until it stops making noises.
Open access door again and remove cartridges for a final time. Remove all tape covering the pins and return the cartridge back into the printer.
This time add some paper and print an alignment sheet in order to let the printer align the print heads properly.
If you check your ink level, they should be marked as full. If not, sorry, I don’t know what happened. Try again.

Message Reset

HP Maintenance Message Reset Methods
To clear the Maintenance Service Message from the LCD display:

HP IIISi Printers:

- Press ONLINE until the light goes off
- Hold down MENU until PCL CONFIG MENU appears
- Press the MENU key until SERVICE MSG=ON* appears
- Press the + or - key to change display to SERVICE MSG=OFF
- Press ENTER/RESET MENU key to turn message off, the * should appear, then press ONLINE

HP 4Si Printers:

- Press ONLINE until the light goes off
- Press MENU until CONFIG MENU appears
- Press the ITEM key until SERVICE MSG=ON* appears
- Press the + or - key to change display to SERVICE MSG=OFF
- Press the ENTER key to turn message off, the * should appear, then press ONLINE

HP 5Si:

- Press MENU key 4 times for CONFIG MENU
- Press ITEM to display SERVICE MESSAGE=OFF
- Press ENTER
- Press ONLINE

HP 4000/4050/4100/5000 Printers:

- Turn the printer off
- Hold down the left side of the ITEM and VALUE +/- keys, turn the printer on and wait

HP 4500/4550 Printers:

- Turn the printer off
- Hold down the CANCEL JOB and SELECT keys and turn the printer on, then wait until the display goes blank and the three LED's come on
- Press the right side of the MENU key, then press the SELECT key
- You will enter SERVICE MODE after the normal test completes
- Press the ITEM key until the FUSER MAINTENANCE COUNT appears
- Press VALUE +/- to change to zero
- Press SELECT to save
- Press GO; the printer should return to READY

HP 8000/8100/8150 Printers:

- Press the MENU button until the display reads CONFIGURATION MENU
- Press the ITEM button until the display reads SERVICE MESSAGE = ON/OFF
- Select OFF*
- Press SELECT to save
- Turn printer off
- Hold the VALUE MINUS and ITEM MINUS buttons while turning the printer back on Hold buttons down until display reads RESET MAINT/COUNTand then release both buttons

HP 9000 Printers:

- Turn the printer off
- Press and hold the CHECK key
- Power on the printer
- Release the CHECK key after all three lights come on The display should read SELECT LANGUAGE
- Press the up arrow until MAINTENANCE KIT is displayed, then press the CHECK key again and the maintenance kit count has been reset

HP Color LaserJet 4500/4550 Printers (TRANSFER KIT RESET):

- Press the MENU button until the RESETS MENU is displayed
